The Unbelievable Journey: Hauling Giants Across Continents
2 min readIn a testament to world-class logistics, Express Global Logistics (EXG) has managed one of the most challenging transport feats for a cutting-edge green hydrogen project in Saudi Arabia. This monumental task involved the relocation of 14 massive modules, each weighing up to 250 tonnes and measuring 50 meters in length, 12 meters in width, and 18 meters in height.
Precision was key in this complex operation. EXG’s fleet was enhanced by the use of advanced Scheuerle self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs), specifically designed for such heavy loads. The moving crew masterfully utilized 48 axle lines, combined with two power pack units and tailor-made spacers, ensuring the modules were transported efficiently and safely.
The logistics masterminds adopted a roll-on roll-off (RoRo) strategy for eight modules, making use of specialized ramp plates and balancing techniques to streamline the loading process. For the remaining six structures, skillful use of SPMTs was essential, as they had to be transferred to a jetty and lifted by powerful crawler cranes. This intricate handling demonstrated EXG’s unparalleled expertise in overcoming logistical challenges.
A pivotal moment for EXG came in January 2023, with the formation of a joint venture with Italian logistics leader Fagioli, known as Megaload. This partnership has widened their scope, tapping into sectors like petrochemical and construction for innovative solutions.
This remarkable endeavor highlights EXG’s commitment to excellence, showcasing their engineering brilliance and safety standards. As technological advancements continue, the future of heavy transport logistics promises even greater possibilities.
